Got my first retic...

cito Jun 29, 2004 10:51 AM

Well I got my first retic today and I'm amazed at how much better looking it is in person. The only problem is, when I got it, it had escaped from its plastic box container, and was free roaming in the box. He has 2-3 scales peeled off his head, I'm not sure if thats pre-shipment, or if it was caused as a result of escaping from the plastic container. Anything I can do about this? Will it ever look normal. He's also a little under weight but thats usually what most breeders do to keep their babies small, so I'm going to try and give him a couple mice tonight and see how that goes. I'll be posting pics later.

Know what locale he might be? Gotta pic? Who was the breeder? As for the removed skin do not worry about it that much. I would just make sure his husbandry requirements are met and let him be for a week.

I got him from Bob Clark. I'll try and post some pics later tonight. He still hasnt moved from the spot I put him in the cage, is that normal? He also hasnt shown any signs of aggression.

Is he a normal from Bob? As for no aggression, he might just be very scared or a good tempered little guy. Not moving from my experience when young is unusual I have a little jamp right now and he is always on the go in or out of his enclosure.

Yeah hes a normal. He still hasnt moved from the spot I left him in, and when I take him out he barely moves.

GHe's prolly just stressed and might be cold from the long trip.

I wouldnt worry too much about him not moving. Mine did that for the first day or two after I got them as well. I would wait just a few days before you try to feed it. Give it about 2-3 days at least, and a week at best before you try to feed it. Make sure its got a hide box or you will probably be asking for nose rub problems. And best of luck.

I would hold off on feeding him, as he will either A: not eat anyway, or B: regurge due to all the stress.. He is likely very cold from being out of the shipping container and away from the heat pack.. Him not moving around in the cage is also normal.. He will likely sit in his hidebox for the next month. lol. My retic hardly ever leaves his hide tub, or if he does, its to hide under his madrona tree or to soak. If he is SERIOUSLY not moving around at all when you take him out, seems lethargic, or isn't tounge flicking at ALL, this may be a bad sign. How bad was the rub? Was it bloody? Or is it just that dull look? If its just a dull area, thats usually caused by the top layer of the scale being torn off.. If its bloody and actually ripped skin, i'd take it to a vet and get it checked out considering you say its not moving at all either when you hold it.. If it seems physically ok, just leave it be and make sure it stays warm.
