almeizy Jun 29, 2004 11:05 AM

my ball python, approximately 2 - 3 months old is going through a shed, first time since i have been the owner. how long does this process usually take, all he does is hides. if i get too close to him, he hisses. he is normally friendly, im not afraid of him but just curious on the time frame

Leave him alone. Don't handle and I also don't feed. It's a stessful and uncomfortable time for him.

The entire process can take 1-2 weeks. First he'll go 'blue' and his eyes will cloud over (really stressful time because they can't see!), then it will all clear up like he's shed, then 2-3 days later he'll actually shed. Make sure humidity is up around 70% and he has something rough to rub on to start the shed (like a climbing branch, etc).
