Adult BP,shed 3x in 2 months...?

spydergirl Jun 29, 2004 01:25 PM

I made a post about 3-4 weeks ago about my adult ball python who shed twice in one month. Well, here we go again! Now its been 2 months and hes about to shed AGAIN. Since the last time i found out that he is approx. 4-5 years old, is a male, and is CB. Which does help. Just so you know,i rescued the BP from my workplace(petstore) after a customer had given him to us. He was dehydrated, about to shed, had retained eyecaps, had a RI, a few mites and hasnt eaten in 4 months. Well hes in absolute perfect shape now. He was eating well for awhile, taking PK large rats as soon as i would lay them in the cage, but he hasnt taken a killed rat in oabout 3 weeks, only one live medium sized rat. So im wondering if i should be concerned with these 3 sheds,is it unusual?

If it is shedding, it means that it is growing. Don't worry about numerous sheds in a couple of months. I have had a female that was on a feeding binge for a couple of months shed 4 times in 3 months, so it is not a big thing to worry about.

When he refuses a large rat, try a smaller rat. Sounds crazy, but mine will take a smaller rat when they won't take a large.

Not surprised a little...I had a male do the same thing in a rescue and was about the same size. Do you have signs of aggression? I would just feed small rats for a while...Funny how they shed so much...my rescue was aver 7 years old and about 4 ft and shed almost the same as yours. Good luck
