Does keeping multiple animals = TROUBLE???

Cirrous Jun 29, 2004 02:37 PM

Hello.
I´ve had Vahshi (Uromastyx Achantinura) for about 8 years now and I'm thinking of getting him a female. Vahshi is extremely tame and well keept and NEVER shows aggressive behavior towards me or other people he knows.
I've read that keeping multiple animals (in this case 2) could mean trouble. I've talked to a pet store and they have agreed to let me keep her for a week to see if they go well. Is this enough time to determain if they are socialy compatible?
Or is it just a stupid idea to get a second animal?
(The cage is really big with several cliffs and caves, so this shouldn't be a problem.)
I truly appreciate any help and/or advice I can get.
Thank you all in advance,
sincerely
Cirrous

It's really nice that the pet store will let you try her out before you buy but there's still a problem with doing that. A new animal (especially from a pet store) should be quarantined in a separate enclosure for a minimum of 60 days (roughly 2 months) and its feces should be brought in to the vet for testing (in case there are any parasites, you don't want to pass them on to your healthy uro). There's no guarantee that the uros will get along but a male/female pairing is your best bet when getting a cagemate. Breeding pairs will tolerate each other much better than same sex pairs.
When you say your tank is big, how big is it exactly (what are the dimensions of the tank)?

Hope this helps

Save the image as a .jpg or .gif. Then Try using a host imageshack.us works terrificly for me. If that doesn't work try emailing the image as an attachment to yourself, and if the image doesnt come up there's something wrong with it.
