Vision Cages

The model that I want does not come with a light shroud. It is undertank heated only. Will my snakes be alright without the light? Is there an alternate way to light the cage (model 221)? Also, how do you keep cages cool, for low temp species? It gets over 80 in my cages easy without any heating devices, and I have seen snakes that prefer to stay in the 70s, so how would I keep them cooler than the others?

I can't think of any snakes that like to be lighted, or will do better if lighted.

People light snake cages so that they can see their snakes better. Too much lighting can even make a snake feel less secure and less protected.

Undertank heaters at one end of a cage (for thermoregulation) is the best approach for the vast majority of snakes.

I have seen some people mount a flourescent inside the cage. It works really nicely if you mount the light inside, on the front, top portion of the cage so that the animals are lit from the front.

If you do light your snakes, keep an eye on them to see if they are suffering any psyche like symptoms of insecurity.

Thanks, thats good to know. I was worried about my snakes lack of light right now too because it gets so hot in the house right now that I dont even turn the lights on. Thanks!
