question about luna, food, soil

lele Jun 29, 2004 03:01 PM

The last few days I find Luna down in her branches when I come in in the morning. She still comes up to drink and bask but she has not been eating too much the past few days. I am not terribly worried but today she was shooting at the soil. I never put my protective plastic canvas on her big scheff b/c it is so dense and she never went near the soil (thought I just took it out to cover it now). So now I am wonderting two things:

1- could she be developing another clutch already (yikes - not again!) I know Ohana, her sister, laid within a couple weeks after her first infertile clutch (Sonia/anson has her).

2 - What might she be looking for in the way of minerals or other nutritional needs? I am dusting only once a week with cal/D3 and vitamins. Her crix are gutloaded and she eats butterworms and supers, too.

thanks,
lele

Sometimes chams just shoot at things out of curiosity. If there are shiny flecks of mica in the soil they could look like drops of water. I don't think they are doing it to get some micronutrient. I had a male veiled who would roam my carpets shooting at flecks of sand.

yeah, it's just that she hasn't does this since I first got her and in combo with her wandering, not eating and hanging out in the lower branches a lot I thought maybe I am missing something. I covered the soil just in case she shoots at something difficult to swallow.

thanks
