U. Aegypticus Microlepis (AKA: Saudi Uro) - Does anyone have one?

just-n Jun 29, 2004 03:24 PM

I've heard it called Egyptian Microlepis, U. Aegypticus Microlepis or Saudi Uromastyx and it is described as slightly smaller than the U. Aegyptica Aegyptica with lighter coloration.

I am curious about this species and thinking about buying one. I have seen pictures on the Kingsnake site and other places on the net but I am looking for a personal opinion from someone that isn't trying to sell me one. LOL

If you have any pictures it would be nice to see them. Thanks!

Hey there-

Seems that there is one person selling soon to be hatchlings of both Saudi and Microlepis.
I have never dealt with them, nor have I seen them post any responses on the forum.
Check the lizard classifieds....
Good luck.......

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I saw Hacienda Anura's web site selling Micolepis babies. I wonder why they aren't more popular.

Does anyone know if they have similar temperment to the larger Aegyptius?

That is the million dollar question!!!!

As it seems there is not a great deal of difference between the two subspecies and (I believe) I do own 6 Aegyptius & 1 Microlepis.
To that I see no difference between U.a.a and U.a.m.

I have found that there are variations in color, stature, some physical descriptions such as tubercles (side spines)on the body. These variations seem to be somewhat inconsistent.
All of my animals are different in some way..including temperament.
That said, the biggest difference is where the Uros originated from. That has been the main consistent factor.
I emailed HaciendaAnura, they pointed out the difference between hatchling coloration and were incredibly forcoming with information.
They have been breeding U.a.a.for the last 10 years and U.a.m. for the last 2!
Seems like a great source of quality animals.
Good luck on your search.
