Do beardies require them like other herps?

Yes. It makes them much more comfortable when they have somewhere to curl up and hide, and it's also beneficial for brumation when they are adults.

My little guy likes his half log.

But my big dragon never liked his. I found out that he REALLY likes old cardboard boxes. I just throw him my soda boxes when they are empty, and trash them when he tears them up or gets em dirty. Doesn't look great but hey, he loves them! What can ya do?

did you get the name Nightshade from the Terry Brooks novels? She was a witch in a series of novels. Not that I am implying you are a witch by any means. LOL

Actually that is funny. It isn't where I got the name but I will have to read the book! I have been accused of being "witchy" but never a witch!

I have had hides for my beardie (adult) and he never used one. he would dig under it or next to it and sometimes would just knock it out of his way. So eventually, I got rid of it. I tried 1/2 logs and actual house type thing (I bought it for my snake until he out grew it). I even tried a piece of cork proped up...he knocked that down right away (almost in anger...like, leave me alone, I want to be here and you keep putting crap here!).

I now have a new baby and she never uses hers either. She likes to sleep on her log (weirdest thing). I still have the hide in there, but I have NEVER seen her even near it (not even to chase a cricket) I am going to try something different as time goes by, but I expect her to do the same thing.
