rain rain go away

krim5 Jun 20, 2003 11:39 AM

Here in Florida we have had almost a week of non stop rain. Is this too long for my boxies to be out in the rain? I have thought of bringing them in, but I figure it is nature and if they were in the wild they would have to deal with it anyway. They have some dry spots that they can retreat to. During heavy rain portions of their pen is under water, but about 1/2 of it is above water. The temps here are still in the 80s, so it isn't getting real cold. Even at night it is still 70s.

Thanks, Shawnon

It's been raining for almost a week straight here in NC, too.

My boxies are still outside, though. Make sure their pens can't flood and they should do fine.

This rain is putting a big slow-down in my work on the new pens, though. All my digging is full of water now... it's a mudhole in the yard. *sigh*

We've all been getting a mild form of Seasonal Affective Disorder around here: what a contrast to last year!
My guys are staying out, too, and seem to being feeding well on worms coming up, etc. They also enjoy soaking in their pond while it rains.
I would think that since yours have some high ground they'll be okay.

It's been the same here in Louisiana. It has rained everyday for almost the past two weeks. The ground is completely saturated. Even when we have only a tenth of an inch of rain right now, there are places in my yard that are almost ankle deep with water. Even though the soil in my box turtle pen is a couple inches above the soil in my yard, about half the pen stays flooded for an hour or two after the rain because the soil in the pen is saturated also. However, the turtles seem to be enjoying the frequent showers.
