Alligator snapper prolapse ?

hopjams Jun 29, 2004 07:18 PM

My alligator snapper is about 14 inches in carapace length and I was not positive as to its sex as I have'nt come across a good comparison photo. But lately its been showing me something that leads me to believe it may be a male but I've never seen a good photo of that either so I'm not positive if that is what that is or if it is a female with some sort of of prolapse (intestine)??In the photo it is at furthest point that it has come out to, it is usually just out a little ways compared to that. It's been out most of the time that I've checked for a couple of weeks now. Any help confirming one way or the other would be greatly appreciated. I hope the photo shows up this is actually the first time I have posted. Thanks again for any help or advice . Jim

Thanks for the speedy reply. I feel much better now. I guess knowing that it is definately male the larger I build my new pond the better. Thanks again. Jim

Guess I better show his good side after hurting his dignity with the last photo. Amazing just three years ago his carapace measured 1 3/4 inches and now it's 14 inches in shell length.
