jyohe Jun 29, 2004 08:28 PM

"how long does it take till they lay..after breeding"....

they see one copulation and start to think they will get eggs soon....and ask how long.......

so..

how long does it take......?

I know people that took 3 years...(and years more).....

so..

I breed all winter...from like Thanksgiving till March.......

finally done....got corn eggs from March till now(still going on them)...and got ball eggs from April second week I think...till today.....

so...it took from mid winter till June 29 to lay eggs......

longer than you think at times.......

(last one........8 eggs minus a little dud)...100% hets.....

7 good eggs ....from an almost 3 yr old girl.......(virgin till amel added).....

..............it's an all year project people.......

fatten them up now..........!

Last year she was bred to an "active" male all winter, she produced her 1st clutch 4th of July, hatched Labor day. This year she was with a timid young het pied, she finally got him going on Easter weekend. She seems to like holidays! Doesn't look like this clutch or hatch will hit on any holidays, but it will certainly be a late-season clutch! I'll probably let her skip next season.

They breed and breed and breed and breed. Its what they do. A monkey could get them to copulate. But copulating, like you say, doesn't always translate into eggs. What separates the wannabes from the actual breeders, is consistency. To constantly get females to produce for you consistently and to get female to produce early and often. That and LOTS of luck and patience.

I've hatched and sold all of the first clutch of 2004 already, yet today I got a clutch of eggs. Breeding Ball Pythons is an ALL-YEAR hobby/job. I still have clutches to be laid. I'll be hatching out dozens in September/October, just like every year.

My hat's off to ALL the Ball breeders out there. You guys are TOPS!

Had a lot of variety this year. Here's a more "orangy" one from a couple months back:
