I purchased a Russian Tort about three months ago and my daughter named her Anastasia. I wasn't sure about the sex, but gauging by how long and thick the tail looked tucked under the shell, I thought "she" was probably a "he". I don't have any practical experiencing sexing torts (I'm a snake guy). Anastasia is easily six inches long (so I assume adult for this smallish species). Tonight was the first time it wasn't too shy and I could actually examine its extended tail closely which was a thrill for me getting it's confidence. Althought the tail appears fairly thick and longish (about two inches long), the vent is less than halfway up from the tail tip to the end of the tail near the shell bottom. Possibly female after all?? Any info on sexing or pics depicting male and female Russian tort tails for comparison would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKS!!!
