Gravid tetrataenia female?

Jun 30, 2004 05:15 AM

Hi
My tetrataenia female has become bigger and bigger. If she was a ratsnake I wouldn`t think twice. GRAVID absolutely, but I have no experience in Thamnophis. No copulations has been seen this year, but she has just been thicker and thicker since she came out of hibernation in March. She has shedded 3 times during that period. Last one was yesterday, and she has rejected any food items the last 2 weeks. Size is now 97 cm and 320g.
She is not so active and hides most of the time in her burrow. A nesting box with moist sphagnum moos is newer visited.
If she is gravid: When can I expect her to deposit her young?
and also what size are they (escaping from the terrarium problem)
Hope someone with more experience would answer
Best wishes

Has she ever been housed with a male since spring? Was she mated successfully last year?

Babies will be about 4 inches long when born.

She does look like she's gravid! Man, I wish we could get some of those in the states!

Just curious, how much, in Euros or American, do babies sell for over in Europe?

In europe you have to pay something between 75€ to 250€ per baby.
That would be round about $80 to $270.

On the pic you can see one of my tetrataenia couples.

The female gave birth to 5 healthy babys this year.

that's a huge difference in money. What is it for? Coloration?

No, it´s not a result of the color.

It´s just the result of the reputation of the breeder in addition with the inbreeding effects that effected tetrataenia.

a customer wants to get healthy animals. The best way to get such healthy animals is to buy them from a well known breeder.

Thats the way of supply and demand

Daniel
