Egg laying question

JOSTA Jun 30, 2004 09:10 AM

I have a painted turtle who is ready to lay her eggs. She lives in a pond with no land area. Yesterday evening, I just took her out of the pond and put her in a container with dirt in it, I left her there over night... No eggs yet. Does anyone have any other ideas for me?
Thanks

Is there anyway to make an area of sand that she can get out of the pond and to to on her own? Maybe you can set up a litter box with sand in it and put a rock at the edge near the pond (by the basking area) so when she gets into the box she can climb back out into the pond.

I actually have done that. Yesterday I decided that she probably wouldn't lay if I took her out of the pond. So I put a container of dirt and sand into the pond, it is making a mess though, all of the other turtles are checking it out, and dragging dirt into the water after them, gee. Soon, I will have an outside pond!
