Nicaraguan Boa questions

ustupidcow Jun 30, 2004 01:34 PM

I just received a pair of Nicaraguans from Ben Siegel and am having trouble finding info on this locality. How large must a female be to breed(weight/length)? Actually, I guess that's the only question I had for now.

Our breeder female Nicaraguans range from 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 feet, and are minimum of 3 years old when we breed them. I would estimate that our breeder females are about 6-8 lbs. Our male Nics are considerably smaller and seem about the size of large worms when they breed! In my view, this is part of the beauty of Nicaraguans...their size makes them so much more managable and easy to house than our Colombians! I think you'll really enjoy them and we'd love to see pictures if you can post them!
Hope this helps,

Here's the female. I wish my palm pilot took better pics I can tell them apart real easily because the female is much bigger than the male. She ate a live rat pup on her first day in! The male was too shy to eat up his rat so my ball python got it. I just broke one of my ball pythons into f/t and had a hard time of it so I am confident I can handle a couple baby boas! They are really dark, but don't they lighten up with age? The tails are a deep maroon, almost purple! I love them. I've been letting one of them crawl around my computer desk while I work and they are so fun to watch. The female will follow my hand while I move the (computer)mouse, but she hasn't tried to bite once. I think I will end up with another pair sooner or later. I need to liquidate one or two of my other snakes first though...

I am really pleased with my nics from Ben also. I bet you'll end up getting another pair. I did and I couldn't be happier. These snakes are incredibly beautiful and yet they are not very popular/common. Maybe with a little more recognition, they'll get the attention they deserve. At any rate, Ben certainly sold me exactly what he was advertising...nice, quality nics. All four of mine have wonderful temperaments too....only catch is working with them to switch over to f/t vs. live.

I have 2.2 but I got the 1st pair mixed. Of the second pair, I know the male b/c he has a neat stripe in his tail pattern. However, when I take pics and then upload them onto my computer, I can't tell which is which afterwards.lol
