Mexican Black King developed sudden regurging problem...

krisg Jun 30, 2004 02:17 PM

Hi Everyone,

Looking for any help I can get. I have a 3yr old Mexican Black Kingsnake that during the spring developed a regurging problem. The wierd thing is that he's been healthy all his life, voracious feeder, no problems at all, and since March has not kept down a single meal. Not even a pinky. There are no signs of swelling or anything whatsoever in his belly, no impactions that I can see. I do not try feeding him less than 2 weeks apart and have waited close to a month as well. I keep corns and Asian Ratsnakes mainly so I'm not all that familiar with any peculiarities to kingsnakes. I've done a flagyl treatment, keeping in mind that lampropeltis are sensitive and keeping it very mild. Temps are fine (he's in a rack with the rest of my animals) and humidity is mild.
Any thoughts or suggestions from anyone are welcome, especially any thing that might be common with king snakes that I, as an elaphe enthusiast, might easily not be aware of.
Thanks,
Kris

Sounds like it could be some sort of internal parasite. To my understanding flagyl is only affective against trich and other protozoan but not affective agaisnt other internal parasites like tape worms, but I could be mistaken. I would take him to a vet ASAP if he hasn't held anything down since March since it's gonna be July. That's quite a few mths for a snake to not hold anything down. Better safe then sorry.

but do you figure that an internal parasite could have been dormant in his system for the last 3 years? Considering he's cb, and has not been in contact with any other snakes containing any sort of parasites, I don't see how he could have contracted anything like that...
Thanks,
Kris

They can get parasites from their food regardless if its frozen or not.
