Fruit Fly Problem

Becki71 Jun 30, 2004 04:00 PM

We are having a problem with fruit flys getting all over my torts food. It is getting very annoying. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do about getting rid of them? It is in our indoor encloser. Thanks!

Do you have any idea where they came from? The only time I ever get fruit flies is when I have spoiled fruit, and even then it takes several days before they show up. They are annoying, though! You might try either just leaving food for 15-30 minutes, then cleaning it all up, or feeding in a separate container. If there's no food for them, the flies will eventually die off.

We usually don't have any fly problems until the grapes around here start rotting...this is very early. We did plant some tomatoes in front of our house and I think that is drawing them to the house. That is the only thing I can think of. I don't keep food sitting out so I don't know what else it could be. I will try taking the torts greens away right after they are done...maybe that will help. I usually try to keep food in all the time so they can graze whenever they get hungry. Guess I can't do that...or I need to rip out the tomatoes which my hubby won't be too happy about! Well at least I learned my lesson in not planting that close to the house!
