Just how long does a rat needed to be frozen?

Sunshine Jun 30, 2004 05:52 PM

It seems I've read this (or made it up in my mind) but I can't remember, in order to kill it's parasites? I now have all 5 of mine eagerly accepting f/t. I think I wasn't making their prey "dance" enough.

Also while I'm seeking advice....how long can they be stored if they remain in the original vaccuum pack?

Thanks,
Linda

Linda,
. I think being thoroughly frozen for 24 hours kills a large percentage of the pathogens. I have had vacuum packed rodents from the good suppliers stay fine in the freezer for 12 months. Some from other suppliers were either not as well vacuum packed or were dirtier to start with and did not last as well in the freezer.
