an albino 5 lined skink

toddbecker Jun 30, 2004 06:52 PM

Here is a photo of a little guy I caught outside of my house. I am Northern TN and we have quite a few of the normal versions of these running around near my house but this is the first time I have ever seen an albino (actually the first time I have seen any albino animal in the wild). I managed to catch it and now it is living comfortably in a terrarium. Sorry about the quality of the photo. I hope you like it. Todd

Thats cool now it actually has a chance to survive.Alot of albino things die because they have no camoflauge or have bad eye sight.

Wow nice! You should think about breeding them! I am sure there would be some money in it for you. I have seen albino green tree frogs command a nice bit of cash ($25 ).

He would get some money but it would take along time and some inbreeding to get another albino enless he found another.

I have thought of breeding it but I have to do some research first cuz I do not know a whole lot about lizards. I normally deal with the large pythons. And the fact that I would have to line breed it shouldn't be that big of a deal. All new morphs are created this way so it should be alright. Definitely something I am thinking about though. Thanks for all your comments. Todd

http://www.zo.utexas.edu/research/txherps/lizards/eumeces.fasciatus.html

and also note: Females keep there five lines throughout there lives, but males turn a brown with a reddish head

you should use some sort of lay box so it will be eaisier to find eggs if you breed it

PLEASE BREED IT!!!!!!!!!!! It is SUCH a BEAUTIFUL animal!!!!!!! I would buy hets or an albino from you for a great price without hesitation!
