What on earth does 1.0 or 1.1, etc mean?

ltcommdata Jul 01, 2004 12:53 AM

I have been a steady follower of Kingsnake.com for over a year now & have purchased 5 snakes through it. The site is a true "pot of gold" in finding great snakes & breeders. But one thing that I cannot seem to figure out on my own is what the numeric terminology that proceeds many snake ads actually mean. I assume that it is a quality designation, but how does the rating scale work & who verifies these ratings?
Thanks for any information that you can provide!

That's to indicate the number of snakes and the sex of snakes. The number indicates the quantity, and the position of the number indicates the sex. Males first, then females. For example, if it says 2.1 Honduran milksnakes, that means the guy has three snakes, two of which are male and one female. If you go to the care sheets page here on Kingsnake, there's a very helpful glossary with lot's of info like this.
Cheers!

i also wondered about that, i guessed right, but i'm curious as to what 0.0.2 means?? does this mean that they have no males, no females, and 2 that they haven't sexed yet??

0.0.2 would mean that they have 2 that were of unknown sex.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the clarification. I knew that all I had to do was ask & I would receive an intelligent answer. I guess that is why I tend to hang out at this site more than any other is the great support of the users (although the available snakes & awesome pics help ). As a side note, any suggestions that you might find helpful to a new entrant into the Lamp family? My new black milk is absolutely great ( I originally wanted an Indigo (always have)) but stumbled across this fantastic creature & fell in love! I previously only kept Boidae but he really added some spark to my husbandry! So much more curious & alert than my other charges. Well, thanks again!

Bill

P.S. I hope to post some pics of him soon (still acclimating).

Hey...here's the link. Scroll down to almost the bottom, and there's a really good explanation. I was sooooo lost until I happened upon this page.
