Questions about newborn boas

pcole Jul 01, 2004 08:41 AM

I had a litter of boas born last night around 10:00pm edt, they have all poked their heads out of their amniotic sacs but have not fully left the sacs as of 9:30am today...is this normal? Also I have one baby that looks as if he did not absorb the yolk (see pic below), he is also very lethargic and will only move if nudged. Is there any hope for him? The others will all move without any prodding. This is my first litter of boas and would appreciate any advice that can be given.
Thanks,
Pete

Pete leave them alone and don't move them from their spot for a day or two. Some premature babies can be saved this way. Moving them now may rupture the blood vessels connecting them to their sacs causing them to bleed to death. Leave the other there too and hopefully he will absorb more yolk and make it. Just keep them warm and mist them with warm water very frequently... like every hour or so if possible.
Even hot water, when misted out and hits the air, it becomes real cool.
Keep us updated.. hope it all works out. And that's a pretty little booger in the pic!

Take care, and congrats! Joe
