Santa Monica Mountain Snakes?

Obediah2 Jul 01, 2004 03:48 PM

I am taking a group of high school kids hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains somwhere on Saturday. We are techincally training for a week long sierra backpacking trip, but I figure there is no harm in looking for snakes along the way right? Anyway I was thinking of going around Cold Creek Canyon and Red Rock Road area. Just wanted to see if anyone out there had seen any snakes in this area, or if there is another area that would entertain me while the kids get in shape.

Thanks,

Jake

Don't worry about areas where you can collect - I'm a take only pictures kind of guy.

I dont know where to find snakes in that particular area, but watch out for southern pacific rattlesnakes! Be sure that the kids know not to pick any up, as baby rattlers may not look like rattlesnakes.
