Can 1 male boa service 2 females?

MountainLyon Jul 01, 2004 05:23 PM

Or does it often result in slugs? If not 1.2, Is there a ratio other than 1.1 that usually provides proper fertilization? (Although there's no way I'm buying more than 3!)

I'm specifically interested in hogs, if that makes any difference. (I've only kept one boa before, a Colombian BCI.) I hope to mostly sell them locally here in N Cal wine country where lots of rich folks like to impress people with their conversation piece posessions...

Ok enough with the jokes LOL, I think raven is already gonna slap me if I see her at Daytona LOL.
But really I have not had good luck breeding 1 male to more then one female. I have always had low fertility with it. In fact I use multiple males to get them going before breeding.
I hope this helps

theres truth to both. We successfully bred 1.4 last season. However the birth rates were low (even for virgin boas). Our smallest clutch was 5 live, 16 slugs. Next we had 10 live, 7 slugs. Third had 16 live, 7 slugs. Finally our largest was 16 live, 4 slugs, and 5 stills. We did this because we were trying to prove out our possible het females so we just needed to see what came out. I can see how this is not a desirable way to go but for our first breeding season, I didn't think we did too bad. Good luck with your future breedings.

try 1.2 and see if he's got what it takes. I could add or subtract snakes later if necessary.

Thanks,
