enclosure and behaviour question!

$$PsYcHo$$ Jun 20, 2003 02:33 PM

Hey all! i changed my leo's cage around about a week ago and changed to natural sand from calcium. ever since my leo has bee more active. everytime i look at the tank he's in a new spot. he's also spent 90% of his time on the cold side, in the cave. up until i made the changes, he stayed on the warm side 95% of the time! i like how hes always out and all now but is this a good thing or a bad thing? thanx!

to keep things short, Sand MAY cause inpaction, whether it be fine grain, or calci. I think the finer grain the sand is, the better. Its good that your gecko is on the warm side more often because heat aids a geckos digestion. I do suggest that you do not let crickets loose in a enclosure with sand as substrate simply because when they miss, they will get a mouthful of sand instead. What I would do is break all the big legs off the crickets and put them in a small glazed dish so they cant jump out. Either that or use mealoworms.
Heres a pic.

I use the same dishes. I got mine at petco. I've always used peanut butter lids, but I liked these dishes some much I had to buy them.
