Mist/Drip system

reptileink Jul 01, 2004 09:38 PM

Anyone have an easy receipe for a mist/drip system other than buying one?? How do you spray your tanks down?? Best I could think of was a gallon water jug with a siliconed hose and a clamp to control waterflow. I really want a misting system though, something I can put on a timer, and have a nozzle. Any help??

to make a misting system you will first need to get a water hose timer, this will be the most expensive part. i beleve the one i got was about 30-40 dollars and it was capable of being set for any interval of time a few times a day and even different schedules for different days. anyway get one that suits your needs best. next you need to get a sprayer, the kind that you pump up to spray weeds or bugs or water plants or something. they come in different sizes, and again get one that suits your need best. i used a gallon sprayer and i was able to have my system mist about 3-4 times daily for about a week without refill, although i had to pump about half way through the week. which comes to the downfall of the system, pumping up the sprayer, which can be solved if you have access to a faucet which the system can remain connected. next you need sprayer nozzels which i beleive i ordered mine from barrs.com but you could use anything which will make a mist (i think the hardware stores sell misting nozzels for patios which im sure could be used). last you will need fittings and tubing. first cut off the wand to the sprayer and get the appropiate fittings to allow it to attach to the garden hose timer. next get the fittings to connect the other end of the garden hose timer to the tube which connects to the misting nozzels. (if i remember my nozzels from barrs.com required 1/4" tubeing). finally mount the nozzels, fill up the sprayer, program the timer, pump the sprayer and your golden. you might want to have a few test runs so that you know the spray effects to know how long you want it to stay on and such. so thats about it and pretty much all the parts except for maybe the nozzels can be obtained at a hardware store. the nozzels could also be replaced with pvc pipe or tube/hose with holes in it to provide more of a drip system or sloppy misting system if you can get the holes in the tube to spray right. anyway hope this help .. if you need any more help just ask
