No! It won't but when you wash it be carefull what you use because it can absorb and hold it if not rinsed THOROUGHLY. Then when it gets wet from mistings, stools, etc. it will release harmfull vapors that can harm them.

when i got the liner home i cut it to size and rubbed antibacterial soap over it instead of bleach, then rinsed it. i smelled it and it just smells like rubber. i'm glad to know the rubber smell wont hurt them

I've 2 pieces that I've been using for several months alternately for each of my two cages. I wash mine at least once a week and they still smell kinda rubbery like you say. I don't know if it will ever go away...LOL my dragons are fine.

I always wash it once before using them. They make them and right away roll them up on the rolls never having a chance to air out. Give it a good wash in warm water before using. Wring it out really good and let it hang to air dry on a cloths hanger. After one really good washing that smell is almost gone, and in time there will not be any smell to them at all. If you bought two rolls wash them both now so you have another clean one ready when you need to fully change, and wash the first one. I always hang them up to air dry this will help dissipate any kind of disinfectant, or scent you may have used to clean them with.

>>is that rubbery smell that shelf liner has gonna hurt my beardie??

I used to use the rubbermaid brand and noticed it did consistently have a pretty strong smell to it. This was before and even after being washed in the washing machine with just a little bleach added and no detergent, then soaked and rinsed twice by the washing machine(I used a sweater bag, which worked well).

Anyway, I decided to buy some of the duck brand and the smell is about half as strong and ends up going completely away after some time. Personally, I don't feel good about the strong odor of the rubbermaid and think the duck brand is definitely the way to go. It's more economical as well. Just thought I'd share my experience with the two brands.
