Shedding Question

jakeyjakers Jun 20, 2003 02:48 PM

Guano has been shedding a lot so far this summer, that's always a great thing. I have noticed though, that, like today, he eats his shed? Anyone else have that type of thing going on with their iguana? I'm sure it can't hurt him, but it seemed a little weird. Also, a question about feeding, lately Guano has cleaned his plate everyday. I do feed him a decent amount. Should I put more out and just give him as much as he'll eat?
Thanks for the help,
Jake Olsen

Eating the shed is normal, if not common. Yes, feed him as much as he wants to eat. His limit is defined by his appetite, and igs have no problems with obesity or other over-eating problems.

You know, I have read about reptiles eating their shed, perhaps to reabsorb whatever resources they lose with the old skin, and I have watched Bud to see if he would do it, but he never has. It's always neat to hear about behavior you read about actually being witnessed.
