Strange Behavior

monocledcobra Jul 01, 2004 10:42 PM

I took my year old male beardie Ozzy to the vet two weeks ago and he recieved a clean bill of health. The day after the vet, he started some strange behavior. I know that beardies "wave" when they are awake to show signs of submission, but Ozzy has started to arm wave in his sleep. He'll be asleep the nall of a sudden, arm wave for about 5 seconds then stop. No other part of his body moves (well besides his lungs for breathing). Has anyone experienced this with theirs, or know what might be going on with Ozzy.

thanks

Sounds like maybe he is dreaming to me too?? Never experienced any movement in any of my dragons while they are asleep. Usually they sleep really deep, like rocks LOL. I would be more worried if it was an uncontrolled body movement like a whole body shake or a twitching of the legs, but a wave like they do while awake I personally would not worry that much. I would be curious too though, and ask around if others experienced it before.

I'm curious because I know my beardies can have both their eyes shut but still be conscious for the first 15 minutes or so when the lights go out. If it is a dream it just reaffirms the thought that beardies are the closest thing you can get to a dog in the reptile family! They never cease to amaze me.

I always take him out around 8 o'clock when I go downstairs to watch tv. He falls asleep on the arm rest of the couch then he starts the waving about an hour after he zonks out. Maybe he his just dreaming. Thats it though. He just does a normal wave, no twitches, no body twitches or any thing else.
