Update on Blizzard

Well its only getting worse I can't get it to eat anything and there is something wrong with its eyes now. It won't open one of its eyes and its eyes are sinking into its head. I hate having to see this and having this little guy go through this, at the moment I can't afford to take it to the vet. I'm so mad at LLLreptile for sending me a sickly gecko. I don't know what else to do at this point...

If you cannot afford to take your animals to the vet to receive care when they are ill, then you should not acquire them. A vet visit, fecal exam and subsequent diagnosis and medication is the only thing that is going to save this gecko (even then there is a chance it is too far gone and will not survive). You came up with the $100 or whatever to pay for this animal and to pay for the cost of shipping it to you, please find a way to come up with the money that you need to take it to the vet. If you aren't willing or able to do that then you should find someone that can.

This is why there are so many Reptile Rescues out there guys! Too many people want to buy the pretty gecko but not enough of them are responsible enough to give it the proper care it needs to live, which includes vet care! Herps should be given the same consideration as a dog or cat is given. If your dog was dying would you find a way to get it to a vet? I thought so.

These are living, breathing animals that we are responsible for, they are not just something pretty to look at like a poster on the wall or a piece of jewelry. I swear sometimes I am ashamed to be be a leopard gecko breeder. I apologize if I hurt anyones feelings, including the owner of the poor sick blizzard, but I felt this had to be said.

you're absolutely right kelli

I also worry about people buying leos without thinking and then breeding them . If you breed your leos, you get more leos. People need to realize and be prepared for more babies and their different needs as well.

i agree totally

One of the reasons I no longer post much here is because of all the "help, my gecko is dying" posts asking for advise when the obvious answer is... TAKE IT TO A VET!!! I don't even read the majority of the posts anymore because it is just too heartbreaking to hear these stories. I don't care how much money is spent on a Leopard Gecko, they are NOT disposable pets!

Here in California, the law considers it inhumane animal cruelty to deny your pet the proper veterinary care it needs to be healthy and live a quality life. That is one law that I happen to agree with. If you cannot provide your pets with the care they need, then you have no business having them.

I know I'm a few days late, but I second the previous statements. If you can't afford to take care of it, you have no business owning it.

I repeat: If you can't afford the time or finacial responsibility to take care of it and keep it healthy in the way that is deserved... you have no right to keep them.

I wish animal cuelty in general would be criminally charged more often and the person should be banned from keeping animals. I'm not saying this towards any person, just in general, since the topic of responsibility was brought up.
