Funny little story

Hetfield6J Jul 02, 2004 01:45 AM

Well, i have recently got a bearded dragon, who is about 4-6 weeks old now. Since i got him, i have completely scoured the internet and this site for information, to make sure he was taken care of properly. While reading, i have come to understand some of their funny little habits, but thought this was really funny for such a little guy.

Today, I put some crix in his cage for his afternoon feeding, and sat down to watch him eat. He stared at me for abit, then all of a sudden, took off after a crix all the way on the other side of his enclosure. Half way there, he hit a screeching halt, looked at me, and started head bobbing like nuts. Then after about 10 secs of bobbing, he started "arm waving". This went on for about 15-20 secs, then as his arm came back to the ground, he took off at full speed and virtually tackled the cricket.

I found this completely hilarious, but abit wierd. I thought that these both were usually seen when two adults were together, and not while alone. Also, i've read that arm waving is usually only done by females, but he/she seems to have quite a big head for his body size, so i kinda figured he was a male. Does this behavoir imply that she is probably female?

Whatever the case, it was too funny to watch :P

I think it implies your little beardie is just that, a little beardie.......that is into trying to use it's new found means of communication. I seriously don't think it really knows what it's doing other than something interesting and new. They are hilarious little lizards that do the craziest things. Welcome to the wonderful world of bearded dragons. You're in for a heck of a good time!
