I wanna get an anaconda... Plz Help!

yasin1 Jul 02, 2004 04:04 AM

Hey guys,

I was browsing through the forums and checked your posts. I was amazed by the condas as soon as I started reading.

I already have 3 ball pythons, a monocled cobra and a rhino viper. And I took care of leopard geckos, crocodillians, a gtp, a water monitor, a ringed python and a scorpion so far.

And I wanna conda as a long time pet ... I guess I am in the right place.

I never considired getting one because of their monstorous size and also partially because of that stupid J.LO movie

And I still have some questions...

First of all: Will my lovely snake try to eat me in the future?

2nd: Who should I buy one from? (e-mail will help)

3rd: Whats the size of the enclosure I should get and whats best care sheet.

Thank you already...

Yasin

Well yassin you apparently didn't browse too far into this forum because most of those questions where answered just a couple posts below.

1. A conda may try to eat you. The only one that could do it would be a huge female green though. If you mean will it bite and constrict you, it's possible. I skipped the tongs one day and got a bite on my finger. In the most basic sense, the conda WAS trying to eat me.

2. I recomend Kelly Haller for greens. I've heard Mark Petros is good with yellows but someone else can recomend a good yellow source because I have no direct knowledge.

3. 4x4x8' female green
2x2x6' male green and probably most yellows.
NERD has a decent care sheet for green anacondas.

the chances of a anaconda eatting you is slim. You have to be smart about the whole thing. Kelly's are the tamest snakes around hands down, and he is the only one I recomend. He will sell you a super docile anaconda that has been well started eatting rats. Kelly can be contacted threw this forum or he might still have a ad in classifieds.

How fast do these guys grow?

Some of you recommend to start with a 1020 gallon tank... How much does it gonna hold?

And which one is better green or yellow?

becouse i said it the other night in a chat!! its ok arik you can steal my sruff for now but in the future lol. your snake will not try to eat you if u feed it. ( it might tackel u but its rare) you will stay alive longer with an anaconda if u do not do anything stupid around it like putting it around your neck. well good luck with your conda and keep us informed about everything.

Ok now your going down the wrong path. 1020 gallon...get a good Vision or Monster cage they have closed tops to keep humidity high. They also have slide open fronts, ever try to lift a 100-150lb anaconda out the top of a aquarium?? This is the wrong forum for high breads or morphs, one thing that draws most of us to anacondas is the prehistoric look that has been untouched by morphers. Sure a cross may happen in the wild, i think that it should stay in the wild. Get a good green anaconda from Kelly Haller. You wont be sorry.

LOL, you used to be such a yellow advocator eric. Kind of funny you switched. I happen to like my anaconda morphs..but I would stay clear of the hybrids (I dont know about that in the wild...E deschauenseii kind of looks like one but I still think it is a species and not a cross. Arik was right about all the way through on his post. And Mark Petros is a great yellow breeder...I will stand up for that since I know him first hand. Kelly gets my vote too for greens. I will trade you an anaconda for a N. Kaouthia or two : )

MR_ANACONDA28 Jul 02, 2004 06:01 PM

Eunectes4, Dont get me wrong I love yellows to death...BUT if I was going to have someone with no anaconda experience get a anaconda, it would be a conda from Kelly. They are so much easier to deal with than yellows ( in my experience).

NO WAY...the yellows I got from Mark are the best snakes I have. They eat ft mice very agressively, I have never been bit, they actively go to warm and cool areas of the tank, by far easier than anything I have had. Plus being anacondas, they soak on their own around shed time so you dont have to have 100% humidity like my other snakes for 4-10 days. I do not have a green from kelly and I am sure they are great. But a friend of mine got a normal yellow from Mark a little while ago and his behaves and eats great as well. My opinion stands with IF you want a green, Kelly Haller is great and is great with answering questions. IF you want a Yellow, Mark Petros has the best animals I have seen and I am sure he will answer your questions as well (never needed since I only have 2 yellows and 0 problems)...Only thing i asked him was when they ate last and when they were born.

Hey Guys,

Thank you all for being nice and answering all my questions...

I e-mailed Kelly and he helped me a lot. We got a deal for a gorgeous male green and a care sheet from Kelly himself.

I am enjoying my holiday in Turkey right now and I will get my animal from him in August.

Thanks...

And about that trade offer... I only have one Monocled and I will never ever trade him or sell him cos he is the most beautiful albino I have ever seen

Here is a pic for you guys to enjoy

Very nice picture and beautiful cobra. It is something I have always wanted in my collection but I don't know a trusty cobra source like I do anacondas (I talked to one guy who has venomoid and I liked his animals as well as his venomoid prices but I am not too big on venomoid and he is a ways to drive and you dont want to ship a cobra to Illinois...If I lost my collection by some cobra trouble I would be sick (My snakes I have and will be getting after the first feed (my ball python just hatched) from Mark Petros alone are an expensive collection...and thats a small part). Very very nice snake and those rank in my top five favorite snakes (and I have the other 4 already..maybe soon). I totally respect you not wanting to trade that (I was not really up to trading any anacondas either...my green is worth $1000000 to me after all the work I have done and I do not think trading a granite yellow would be the best move either).

yasin1 Jul 05, 2004 04:00 AM

I know what you mean... It is really hard to trust people in these kinda subject. And venomoid surgeries are still questionable because of the ethical problems.

But if you find a licenced vet as a surgeon and all the proper medication I am ok with it. I am in the verge of getting two more monocleds and if you stay in contact with me I may sell the male to you in/around august if I find him to be 'high quality.'

And ofcourse...everyone's pet is worth a treasure... (Actually my het pied ball pythons kinda do)

Here is another pic of Naja for you...

OH that is venomoid...I thought you had a normal. Still an incredible animal...you still look pretty cool holding that little cobra. I still do not like the venomoid surgery eventhough I have talked to some people who have very good reputation and was told by one guy his snakes ate the same night with stitches in. Very nice little one you have there. By far my favorite venomous...lots of cobras rank close but something about that sloppy spitting sure draws me to those.
