Ok I got some info from PH Flame on this............more

Hoppy Jul 02, 2004 05:19 PM

I have e-mailed back and forth with PH Flame a bit today regarding the removal of the posts. Here is some of the reasons why they get removed.

1) Talking about removed posts will get a post removed with out question (read fast this post is not long for this world LOL)

2) putting the first letter of a swear word then blank spaces and the last letter of a swear word, or using the dollar $ in place of an “s” in a swear word will get the post removed

3) Off topic stuff is OK as long as the forum is not over run with non-herp related things, so maybe talking about motorcycles and tattoos are ok for now, but we can’t go crazy with it.

4) A post that is removed due to the Violation from #1 will cause the posts that follow it and possibly the entire thread to be removed if the remaining posts are referring to the removed posts.

5) Calling the moderator names and swearing at them gets you in big trouble and possibly banned, don’t do this LOL. Remember that there is another person at the other end of the line, not just a emotionless computer.

6) Sex related posts (say goodbye to Stacy’s and Brenda’s pictures LOL) are a no no.

7) Calling out a scam in the classified ads, regardless of how bad it is, that is also a no no. Use e-mail to notify each other of the scams, or post it to the BOI.

8) Any thing else deemed inappropriate and that is decided by PH Scales (who is our moderator for this forum)

I think most of what gets pulled is because of the swearing, so if we can find a different word to use please do, if you can’t then send it via e-mail because you may cause the entire thread to be pulled. Keep in mind that we must play by their rules because we are the guests here, so censorship is going to have to be part of the game. I wanted to thank PH Flame for getting back to me and answering my questions, and now if everyone has read this…….poof its gone!

What about the motorcycle thread was 'taboo'. There was no cussing, no sex, nothing objectionable what-so-ever...other than us as 'bikers'. Censorship for legitimate issues is not a problem, censorship for the sake of censorship is. Sorry, but their playing field or not, the rules should be the same for everyone not just the people they opt to single out.

It was the joke about the Biker chic thing and being hot, or maybe the Bevis and Buthead laugh insertion.... work with me here, I'm reaching for something? LOL

Okay, this just popped into my head given the topic. Say we as a group WANT to view other sides of our fellow forum users. Generally speaking there are only certain individuals that post on any sort of regular basis. This IS going to form some bonds among the users, and why not allow a little OT conversation? Okay, simply put, it looks like we can't do so without the posts being pulled for various reasons. Okay, well then what if someone says "Hey, let's all go to BLANK.COM (not a real website...or maybe it is????) and we can talk there" It is against the forum rules to advertise other sites. Should we truly be expected to e-mail every single forum user of our intention to have an OT conversation at another site since we can't just make a post within the forum stating this? I saw something on another REPTILE related sites forum that I found interesting, but I feared posting about it here as it would only be pulled, and there was nothing negative about the other forum at all. Well, whatever, we all know the rules, and we either chose to live by them or not. Thanks for the post Hoppy. Take care

Paul

Paul,

It's against TOS to "advertise" a site... it's another thing to mention that there is another website that contains content X. While there are a few specific websites that we restrict discussion of, a casual reference to another website is not a TOS issue.

Remember, posts that are replies to a TOS violation are pulled, even though most of them contain no TOS issues themselves. I think most folks can understand the common sense of this.

Again, further questions are welcomed. Send them to me directly.

On the burmese forum they had on many occasions links to pornographic material (and I don't mean soft stuff, it was full blown ADULT ONLY content) I complained as did others, and it was allowed to remain because the poster said "this link is too adult natured material"

I think a lot of it is left up to the individual who moderates a particular forum, I don't think that the same person moderates all the forums. PH Scales could be the "Church Lady" from Saturday Night Live, while the Ball Python forum might be moderated by Ozzy Osborne and his family. I doubt a porn link would survive here but I could be wrong, but I doubt it LOL

Folks, I'm one of several moderators here, not the only one. When posts are removed, we cannot discuss WHY. However, we pull posts that contain TOS violations, nothing more. If there was no violation, it won't be pulled, whether or not we agree with it, or like the nature of the discussion. We are not here to "Squash" the discussions. In fact, I participate in many discussions, as my time and interests allow.

Recent posts pulled DID contain violations, some major, some not.

Please remember that like teachers, policemen, etc., we are here to ENFORCE the rules, we don't necessarily MAKE the rules. And whether or not you understand why something was done, it doesn't mean that it wasn't the correct thing to do.

Anyone else that has questions on what is/is not permissable to post is welcomed to contact me directly. A review of the TOS (there's a link at the top of the main Forums page) may reveal the recent problems.
