Ackie Compatibility??

cnidaria Jul 02, 2004 06:40 PM

Hi all-

I know ackies are considered to be somewhat communal, and I know it is recommended to get them from the same source, but I have a credit with someone for an ackie, and I already own one. I only have one cage now, and wanted to house them together. I have only had mine for a week or so, and would probably get the other one in the next few weeks. My question is, the one I have is about 8"including tail) or so, still a juvie, but the one I have been offered is considerably smaller, probably slightkly larger than hatchling size. Could they get along? I have seen ackies of quite large size differences housed together with no problems, but I have heard this might be an issue. Your thoughts or tips on acclimating them to each other would be greatly appreciated!

thanks,
Brian

Sorry for the crying face...don't know how I did that, but it was not intentional!

Does no one know the answer to this question??

You can put them together, and one may kill or other, or they get along fine, until later when one kills the other or not. Such is the way of living animals, particularly monitors.

Its your choice to take the chance or not. Only you can do that.

Even when you do, you must consider, its only temporary, as they can and do change, day to day, month to month and year to year. Good Luck FR

Like FR says, you won't know until you put them together. Maybe you could get another cage and have it on standby so that you can house them together at first but can seperate them immediately if they start to fight. I've never kept ackies myself but it seems like a good idea to me if you can afford the extra cage. Might be useful to have even if they do get along.
