Take your beardie to the vet. Yes it might be a little expensive, but just like any other pet needs to get checked out once a year, lizards need to be checked out to. Yellow scales could be a sign of yellow fungus, which is some-what common but something you don't want to leave untreated for it can kill your beardie. Fecal samples are important to make sure your lizard doesn't have any prasites that are zapping away it's nutrition, like conciddia which is natural for beardies to have but in large quantites can do more harm then good, thus why a fecal sample every 6 months is needed. DO take your dragon to the vet. The $80 will be well worth it. However, check out other vet's in your area. If there is more then one, do research. Some might be more reasonable. Ask around to see if anyone you know can recommend a vet. Make sure the facility is clean and that the animals are treated well before bringing your beardie in.

(Example: There are two vets near me that take care of exotic animals.. the one that is 10 minutes away charges $90 and doesn't have that good of a reputation. The one that is 30 minutes away is $45 for a check up/fecal but has a great reputation and the doctor comes highly recommended. So which one do I go to? The one further away. Just because one vet charges $80 doesn't mean they all do, nor that the more expensive ones are that much better. )

Hope I helped and hopefully the yellow scales are nothing serious. ^^

Oh my goodness....your vet charges $80.00 !!!

My vet only charges $20.00....The office didn't always take reptiles, but they got a new vet in who specializes (thank goodness, because they really aren't that many options). She is great...I have gone to her for really weird stuff and she if she didn't have an answer then, she would do some research and get back with me (including documentation of her research, so I didn't think she was just blowing smoke).

is often a fungus and it can be very dangerous, the skin is no longer shedding properly because it is dead or dying and that will spread.

It can also be an indicator of other medical conditions that a dragon might have like parasites, worms blocking bile ducts or liver/renal problems. Bearded dragons express many illnesses thought their skin/scales as a yellow discoloration

Try checking where you live below on the herp vet location site below, to see if you can find other vets in your area and talk to them. Most vets on this site are very knowledge about yellow fungus disease as this is a group that has worked with us for 3 years to provide much of the information and data we have collected in the study of it. On their main page is a link to our site about YFD
