miltb Jul 02, 2004 10:51 PM

This 56 inch Racer was found on the Cape, photographed, and released. This is the biggest Racer I have ever seen.

That is a behemouth of a racer! Is it as fat as it looks? Usually they are skinny and sleek right?

I think it is fatter than the picture shows!! His girth was more like a Black Rat's!

Nice catch! Maybe I'll run into him when I'm down there next month....

Hey! I'll give you his address! Thanks for the excursion today... It was a good time. One day we will have to road trip down south.

Nice racer!Nice size 2! I commonly see black racers close to that size where I live in PA. At first site I mistake some for black rats but when you get closer you see that they are just very large racers! I caught a few of em earlier around the begining of May.I spotted one when I was mowing my lawn and I walked over to scare him so he didn't get killed by my lawnmower and he bluffed and came toward me looking all agressive. I stood my ground and he took off to run and I tailed him. Very agrressive and was about 5 feet long and VERY thick.Very hard snake to handle but he calmed down for a second and I was able to get a hold of his head without getting tagged(haven't been so lucky with all racers..lol).Placed him outside my fence into the woods. I spotted a couple of more that were 4 1/2 - 5 feet in May but most were average of 4 feet.

I have seen a few young ones feeding on grasshoppers in my back yard and have actually seen two snakes in my back yard get picked off by birds.Racers are the most common snake I see where I am at.
