Buddies snake just laid eggs! Please help!!

Ok here's the situation. My buddy bought his corn snake from a guy down our block who was getting rid of his collection of about 50 snakes because he was moving. They were all caged seperately. Well he bought this snake about this time last year (atleast a year ago), and has had no problems with her and has been taking care of her fine. Well he just moved her from a 20 gal tank to a 40 gal tank about 2 weeks ago. So yesterday he gets home from work and there are eggs in the tank! This snake has never been in contact with another snake since he's had her and has never escaped. How could she have been holding these eggs for this long? I came over and took a look at them and they look fairly small and have a brownish tint. Are these most likely dead? and how do we go about taking the eggs out because she is gaurding them? Could they still be able to be hatched or no? Thanks guys and any help is appreciated.

Alex

Infertile eggs. If they are brownish. One good way to tell is to lightly mist them... if they absorb the water quickly, they might be good, if they just sit there wet, they are most likely infertile. Snakes, like chickens, can lay eggs that are not fertile. (thought not LIKE chickens). It happens from time to time.
