eye infection, mouth rot,....Ugh!

Kimberlee Jul 03, 2004 10:15 AM

Hi everyone,
I took Scout to the vet yesterday. Seems he has an eye infection and mouth rot. The vet gave him some oral antibiotics and an eye gel. He talked a lot about making sure I am feeding the crickets well, and making sure the temps in the cage are right. Any suggestions here? Can someone go over the temps again for me? I'm going to get a new UV bulb, he said maybe that one is old.
So, if anyone has any information on how this may have happened, and how to take care of it, I'd really appreciate it! Poor Scout is so miserable, I want to cry everytime I look at him. At least today he can open his eyes without me having to soak them first, so I guess the eye medication is already working. He just doesn't seem to have an interest in eating, I'm sure his mouth is really sore.
Thanks for all the help!
Kim

If at all posible, get him some natural sun light. It works wonders!!!

I sure hope he feels better soon. Mouth rot is a systemic infection, can be caused by improper temps, lighting, stress, unsanitarty conditions, insect bites, injuries.

The most important thing YOU have to figure out is what COULD be causing it. Because you can medicare it, but if the problem causing it is not FIXED, the meds will only be good for awhile.

Also temps should be 100 - 105 for basking areas. And high 80's to 90's for the rest of the tank.

Crickets, I feed them, all kinds of greens that I give my other lizards, collards, kale, sliced carrots, potato slices, apple slices, orange slices, cereals, dry cat food , and dry dog foods, fish foods. On and on . They are not to picky !

Those are some examples of the things you can feed the crickets

I do provide greens and some fruit each day, even if I dont provide the others each time.

Always remember The CRICKETS are your collareds nutrition. What they eat is what your lizard is getting.

Again sure hope he will snap out of this, let us know OK !

Take Care,
