res jumped in pool

jacblades Jul 03, 2004 12:18 PM

every week i take my 2 baby res and put them in our pond outside while i go swimming. the pond has no inhabitants. it is an above ground stone pond with water about 5 inches below the top. i didnt think my turtles could get out but while i was swimming i saw one jump in the pool and swim up to me. i took him out and put him back in the pond and covered the pond. i guess somehow he climbed on the floating log and climbed up the side of the pond. the pond is about 3 feet and im sure he fell and hit the concrete under it. what shpuld i do? im worried he might have injured himself from the fall and im worried that he jumped into the chlorinated pool. is there anything i can do?

The pool water is probably fine, once he got it rinsed off it can't hurt him. Chlorine would only hurt his eyes, and only if he stayed in for a long time. As far as the falling, you will have to watch for signs of injury, there is no way we can tell you anything from here. If he has no visible injuries, and keeps eating and behaving normally, I would assume he is fine.

A turtle's shell is extremely protective; I had a small turtle fall from the counter to the tile floors and he was fine.

That happened to me too! Except I was in the bathroom and it fell on to a soft rug.
