ok... Bush vipers are my favorite snakes ever, but im not ready, nor do i want to work with venomous snakes. are there any non-venomous snakes that have those amazing leaf-like scales?

When i look at some of the short-tailed pythons like borneo and sumatran i think of gaboon and puff adders. i also love the camo patterns on the dumeril's boas.

that have scales approaching some of the Atheris are the Eyelash Boas in the genus Trachyboa. There are two species T. gularis and T. boulengeri but neither species is available in captivity. And neither species is as spikey as Atheris hispida although they are almost as spikey as some of the other Atheris.

Candioa asper has pretty rough scales like that, but again, it is only as rough-scaled as some of the smoother Atheris.
