Water depth for small RES?

karebear41486 Jul 03, 2004 03:19 PM

I was just wondering how deep the water level should be for my very small RES? I purchsed it earlier this week at a store that probably shouldnt be selling them at all. They were offering the one inch turtles, along with a tiny plastic 'pet cage' for 15.00. The cage that came with it isnt suitable for housing any living animal in my opinion....but anyways. I now have it in a 20 gallon aquarium with all the needed equipment, but i just was wondering about how deep the water should be to allow swimming room? The turtle is a little over 1 inch in diameter. Thanks!

As deep as it can go and still have a basking area. Turtles are terrific swimmers, even as babies, and the more water you have the less you will have to clean it.

Thank you! Now i can rest assured that he will be OK...he is just so small that it scared me to let him swim free in all that water Thanks so much!

While he is tiny you might want to make sure that you have some "furniture" in your tank so he can rest near the top. I have lots of plastic plants that they can rest on.

Good luck! Nancy
