Please help me identify what I rescued from the neighbor...

Could someone help me to identify this snake? My only experience is with green snakes (Opheodrys aestivus). I've heard everything from this is a semi-/almost-grown brown snake to it's a hatchling rat snake or king snake. It's about 12 inches long, and was found in the northcentral Arkansas (USA) area. I'd like to know if it will consider my green snake as a friend or an appetizer, ya know? Thanks for whatever help you can give.

Here's a link that has some basic info on them.

Depending on where you're located, it could be one of the various subspecies: Northern, Midland, Texan, Florida, or Marsh (I think there's a least one more but I can't remember the name of it).

I'd keep it seperate from any other snake, since it's wild caught and should be quarantined.

Thanks for the info - I really should learn to trust my instincts - and for the advice. Most appreciated.

I agree with the first post, that looks very much like a brown snake (storeria dekayi). With out a field guide at hand I couldn't tell you which subspecies.

Thanks very much! This ID makes the housing issue
much easier to solve, space-wise.

Its def. a Brown Snake, not to sure if they will get along, but im not a fan of keeping differnt species in same enclousure, the best thing would be have a 10-20 gal. tank for the brown, keep them seperate, differnt species in same tank can cause stress...
