I need me a snake sniffing dog

Felissa Jul 03, 2004 03:54 PM

I've lost my girl.

She's twice that size now.

My s.o. noticed she was missing this morning, just before we were supposed to leave to visit his family for the weekend. So far we've torn apart two rooms in the apartment without any luck. Still two more rooms to go though. It's an old apartment, and I've found some holes. Argh.

She was just fed two days ago. She was so fat with mice I'm surprised she managed to excape without hurting herself. I'm still trying to figure out HOW, since the cage was locked. It was still shut this morning too.

I'll be setting out the usual traps if we can't find her. Plastic bags and pinkies.

And of course she's the most expensive corn I own right now. (Opal) Currrsesss...

(another old pic)

Have you TORN her cage apart and looked inside every piece of climbing equipment and hide boxes that you have in there? Don't forget about sifting through the substrate or making sure that you pick up the carpet or paper towels or whatever and look underneath. One time I lost one of my snakes, but he was hiding inside a big log contraption that had a small hole in the bottom. If you are positive that the cage was locked and she could not get out, then she is probably in the cage somewhere. Is it possible that you put her in the wrong cage by mistake? I have also done that, and now I have all my cages labeled to avoid that problem. Luckily I found the "missing" milk snake in another milk snakes cage before there were any problems. Of course, I had already torn apart the room looking for her. "Um, no honey.... I am just cleaning out the closet and organizing all these boxes".

They have pretty spartan cages as it is. Two hides, paper laid down as bedding. I even tore off the decorative backing to make sure she wasn't behind there. My s.o. swears he heard some sort of noise last night that could have been her forcing the top off the tank. As unlikely as it seems, she must have done it, and the top must have fell back down and relocked itself. I suppose it's feasible, since the locks are just plastic. I only have four snake tanks, but I did look in them just to make sure. She's the largest of the four, and I was thinking it's about time I got her a bigger tank.

I guess she just decided for me.

Pinkies have been laid out, plastic bags have been set, and flour has been sprinkled liberally around entryways. I've informed the other occupants of the building so at least she won't meet an untimely demise. We spent the whole day tearing the apartment apart. It's nice and clean now though. I guess some good came of it. I'm also mildly reassured that if she did get into the walls, she might be ok. We've got mice.
