Warning for all those considering getting leopard geckos....

ran_dogg Jul 03, 2004 06:03 PM

This has been pointed out in the past but I was looking for a blantant excuse to post pics so here's a reminder. Leopard geckos are addictive and I am living proof. Appproximately a year ago, I bought my first. Then in Sept, my 2nd. And today, I purchased 2 more (pic below). Be aware of what you're getting yourself into

Indeed. I acquired my first leo about 2 and 1/2 yrs ago. My next door neighbor's 8 yr old son had tired of it, and the poor little girl was starving in her little tank. I knew absolutely nothing about lizards, let alone reptiles, but my heart broke, knowing that she was a starving, mistreated captive. I convinced them to give her to me (they were going to turn her loose in the back yard!!!), and i got online and found this website, as well as purchased a few books, which provided the info i needed to nurse her back to health. Alas, her nutritional deficiencies as a baby took their toll, and she died a little over a year later. You've never seen a grown woman cry so hard over a little lizard!!!! I still miss my little shecky. I went on to acquire 4 more over the next year, and have my first eggs this season. I love my leo's; in the personality dep't they are tops, and each is so individual in their temperament and appearance. I think of them as my little children.I ocasionally take them to my kids' school to share and educate them about small reptiles, and what a big responsibility we have for these remarkable little lizards.Whenever I can, I talk to people about not taking the attitude that reptiles are "throwaway" pets, when people tire of the novelty of owning one of these fascinating creatures.Anyone that thinks they can't interact with humans has never had one.
Thanks for letting me say my piece. Peace to all of you, from Lee, Yoshi, Yoko, Goliath and India
