ponds and turtles and fish

Hi sorry I asked this before but cna't find it??? Can anyone tell me if vinager will hurt gold fish otr redeared slides in a pond... I heard this is a natural way to get rid of algeae(green ponds) thanks...

This doesn't really answer your question but think, fish like a certain pH water. Since vinegar is an acid, if you use too much, you could lower the pH too far and kill the fish. Did you ask this question at the pond forum here at Kingsnake?

Too add to what Anita said -- Acidic water will not get rid of algae so you whoever told this was not giving you accurate information or perhaps was trying to tell you that if you remove objects covered with algae from the pond you can clean them off with vinegar, rinse them and place them back into the pond.

Goldfish prefer more alkaline PH than acidic so putting vinegar in the water would not benefit them. Not sure how the turtles would react but to it but since it will not rid your pond of an algae problem I don't think it is a good idea to use it.

Use barley for algae,or any of the other natural products out there. or get a better pump...save the vinegar for salad.
