UVB question...

funnyman527 Jul 03, 2004 11:09 PM

The Set-Up: Ok, so i just got a 55 gallon tank for my BD, and i have a coiled uvb light for him, but i bought a 48" UVB light from petsmart, and tomarrow i'm gunne buy the fixture for it from Home Depot. The fixture is a 48" single (or double) bulb one, and comes with chains and hooks to attach it to the ceiling, so thats exactly what i'll do.

The Question: If i hang the uvb light over my tank (outside of it above a screen top) will an efficiant amount of UVB light still be able to reach my BD inside the cage???

the light should be at least 12 inches away from the cage floor

A UVB flourescent tube must be WITIN 12 inches of the basking area in order to work. The screen shouldn't effect it much.
