My VERY FIRST Litter!!! Found the lil ones yesterday morning...pic

JJsBoas Jul 04, 2004 12:42 AM

Here's what I found Friday morning. My VERY FIRST LITTER OF BABY BOAS. The dad is an average hypo I bought from someone at an IRBA show a few years back. Most of the hypo babies have a fair amount of dorsal speckling and a few really appear to be some decent, clean-looking hypos. Either way, I have been on 'cloud 9' these past 2 days and just hope to god they all eat in the week or so after they have their first sheds. One little hypo seems to be a premie with a big belly full of yolk still, so I'm worried about him/her the most. But everyone else seems to be doing fine.

I would like to THANK EVERYONE here for the advice and inspiration I see everytime I hop onto this forum. I may not post much, but believe me I sincerely appreciate every piece of help and knowledge everyone here shares with each other.

Sorry for rambling, just a wee bit excited still from the all this. Thanks for looking at my babies and I'll be sure to post most more pics once they shed and eat.

Thanks to all again.

They all look great, can't wait to see more pictures. Best Wishes

Man, I tell ya, I don't how you guys do it. That 105 days POS was the longest 3 and a half months I've every had to go thru. But it's all good and fun when the results finally get here. Thanks again for checkin' my lil ones out.

Oh and in case anyone's interested, the final tally was 25 babies and only 2 slugs. Looks like I've got about 10 hypos, some prettier than others, but all still put a big 'ole smile on this first time "dad's" face.

There's nothing like looking in the cage and finding babies. All the 'normal' people in my life just don't understand my excitement waiting for the little jewels to be born. The hypos are stunning (just love those bright clear colors). I'm also partial to the grey baby, near the bottom left of the original picture between the two hypos. Very nice thin saddles and I really like the slight freckling you can see in the picture. Beautiful group. Congratulations!

Most other so-called 'normal' friends in my life don't seem to understand the joy I derive from keeping these wonderful animals. But I guess that's why we all visit this forum so much.

Thanks for the compliments. I have been giddy like a lil kid on his birthday since Friday morning and I can't stop pulling out each lil ones shoebox every few hours to check up on them. I'll post more baby pics soon. Thanks again.

Congratulations!!!! I can't wait until my first babies are born too. I bet they all look spectacular once they shed (gorgeous now I'm sure they'll be really stunning after shedding). ;D

Congrats again and keep us posted. ;D

Hugs!

would feel so darn awesome. I tell ya, I was hooked on boas once I got my first ones several years ago. And now that I've been blessed with these lil ones, I don't think there's any turning back from this hobby/obsession of ours.

Good luck with your own projects and I hope you find a pile of healthy babies soon. Thanks again for the compliments.

Amen to that Jay. ;D It's hard enough saying no to buying more for our collection just off the fact of how amazing these animals are, but when we get babies from them...there's no turning away at that point. LOL It seems to make us want them more. hehe

Hugs!

I am very happy for you. I have produced a lot of colubrids, but I will produce (hopefully) my first boas next year. I am excited and terrified, boa breeding is a bit more gory and uncertain. I wish you the best of luck.

No one in the world ever gets what they want, and that is beautiful. Everybody dies frustrated and sad, and that is beautiful.

JJsBoas Jul 04, 2004 01:22 PM

I know what you mean about feeling terrified about breeding boas. Being that this was my first litter ever, the mess from the live birth wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm sure the adrenaline also had something to do with masking any foul odor that may have been emitted from all the birth fluids

Good luck next year with your breeding efforts and hope you find a big messy pile of babies one morning next summer.

Super-nice litter. Congrats. The only problem is...well..you won't be able to stop with just one.
