Is there anything like a treat I can give my crestie???

jack7777766 Jul 04, 2004 02:04 AM

Hi All,

I want something to give my crestie as a treat every now and again when I take him out so he can associate being taken out with something positive, Ive had him for over a year and hes doing fine, he eats mostly CGD and once in awhile crix.
I dont really andle him as much as Id like mostly because hes very flighty and keeps humping and always craps on me if I hold him for more than 5 minutes. Ehrn hr mskrd I udduslly krrp him out on mr for snother while as a punishment so he doesnt associate crapping with getting back in the cage but it hasnt worked with him.

I was wondering if there is something non insect I could gove him as a treat from my hands that he would enjoy???
I was thinking of a banana maybe???
Do you guys know of anything???

Thanks
Jack

The only thing I've tried with my cresteds is mango. I ate a mango and just scraped off some pulp from the skin. My 1 yr old male definitely was drawn to the smell and licked some of the juice, bit did not devour it as I was hoping. However, this was outside of his cage and he's usually a bit nervous and flighty if he's outside too long. So, anyway, try mango.

Although in all honesty I think any effort to alter behavior in cresteds through strengthening associations may be difficult. They don't seem to be very good learners and although they do seem to have different "dispositions" I'm not sure this is a learned behavior.

Good luck
C-Rex
