ATTN: Jimmy : My corn woes update + shedding questions

PAsnake Jul 04, 2004 07:16 AM

Seems you were right since the beginning. The higher temps did the trick, 2 normal excrements from 2 pinks. I thought my temps were fine because the belly heat from the UTH was in the right range approx. 84-86 and the air temps were a little lower 74-76 80-82, seems air temps matter more than i though. I was only able to get the temp range from 78-80 to 84-86 air temp by covering about 2/3 of the screen. If i cover less the cool side drops into the lower 70's more like 70-72.

thanks again for your help over these two weeks feels good to have my little guy back to normal

Now for the Shedding questions.

I've had him 4 weeks now and he has seemed bluish in certain light since i got him. His eyes have never gone cloudy, that i have seen, but last night while cleaning his cage i noticed his skin about 3/4 of the way back seems to be flaking. I had a humid hide in with him and he spent allot of the week in there (plastic container with wet paper towel in it) because my house tends to be dry and i didn't want any problems shedding. I also have rocks in there and a fake rock water bowel so he has places to start his shed when needed.

Does the flaking mean he is in shed? or are there other possibilities that could have caused this?

Thanks i really appreciate the help, feel free to yell at me for being overly worrisome

why does he do this to me lol

sometime between 7am and 1pm my snake took another poop and this one is not fully digested. It is more digested than the others and doesn't resemble a pink it actually looks like a pink/brownish little sausage link.

The others were normal this is his third poo since his feeding Tuesday (2 pinks) perhaps the meal was too large i plan on trying one pink this week and keeping the higher temps.

Also of note i checked up on the digital camera i ordered and it will be here Tuesday so i should have some clear pictures to post tuesday night.

>>Now, although it seems that the temp change has corrected the regurgitation problem it seems as if we have made the habitat a little too dry.
It does indeed sound as if the snake is having trouble shedding.
What I would do is place a larger water bowl in the enclosure. One that is big enough for your snake to curl up in and soak if needed. This larger water bowl with the partially block top should help to increase the humididty which will, in turn, help with shedding.
In the mean time I would get a deli dish or glad ware container and place damp paper towels and your snake in it. Leave it in there for a little while and see if this doesn't help remove the rest of the skin.
If this doesn't seem to do the trick take warm, damp wash cloth and slowly rub it down the length of your snake. from head towards tail. This should help to dislodge any remaining skin.

Thankfully no regurg, only the partially digested excrement.
Figured shedding troubles, seems i am going to learn about all these things early on in snake keeping lol.

the water bowl i have had in there since day 1 is plenty big enough for him to soak. While i have seen him drink from it and lay around the rim i have never seen him or evidence of him soaking in it.

I had the humid hide in for 2 weeks the first weeks he hardly used it. This previous week after raising the temps he was in it about 75% of the time when i looked in his enclosure.
