I found a new garter on the side of my grandma's house in late evening. He was trying to get the last little bit of sun for the night. My Grandma and Grandpa hate snakes and were about to kill it so I offered to keep it. I put it in a 10 gallon aquarium with two hides, a water bowl, and a branch to climb on. I offered him a baby toad and he ate it right away! That was yesterday. When will he be hungry again? He is about 1 foot 5 inches. I bought some rosy reds but he seems to have no interest in them. Are there any other fish that they like better. For some reason he only likes to eat when I am not around and he is inside his hide. Oh yeah, before I fed him the toad he ate a slug.

I catch and release mine. I have an outdoor pen for them. There every where i live.(southern manitoba) If i were you i would stick with the toad diet. You should try feeding it in a week, depending on the toad size. Just put one in, in a week if he doesn't eat it then try in 3 days. Also try large grass hoppers, earth worms. If you still see a bulge from the toad it probably wont eat anyway. Lardman

This is the first one I have seen in a long time around my house and Grandma's house. It has eaten two worms already today. I held it before I fed it the worms a it is still a little bit jumpy around me.LOL.I put a fish in his water bowl and he has been eyeing that too. He sure is hungry! Thanks any other advise is aprreiciated too.

P.S. I named him Houdini because he kept trying to get out of his cage yesterday.LOL
