Isn't it funny that the NEW 2004 hunting regs booklet does not mention..

mchambers Jul 04, 2004 10:39 AM

reptiles in any form or matter as to what one needs to hunt, look, observe ? I'm talking about the Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Annual Hunting and Fishing Regulations booklet. Unless i have overlooked it ( and i have read it time and time again ) it list turtles and frogs. On page 74, Nongame and Other Species ( including frogs and turtles ).......Alligators....Bobcat.....Coyotes.....Armadillos:.....flying squirrels.....more..... but not one listing of lizard or snake. They are not listed as or in exotic either. MY POINT ? To the naive or uninformed, how can this be looked at by the same. How can this be inforced with no listing or mentioning in the booklet ? How would or could this be upheld in a court ? So the argument of even to have any form of permit/license to photo any wildlife is true going by what i have read. NO NEED for any ! And going by booklet, no need for any ! Of course this is were the pursue issue comes in I guess !

It's really fun when one travels in from out of state and attempts to purchase the correct hunting license in Texas... James and I always get ours in El Paso at Sports Authority on our way to alterna heaven, and no-one there can figure out which license to sell us. They call all over the state. It's a riot, but, sad too.

Like you said, you'll get no help from their regulations.

Chambo that thing doesn't matter because it's
just a booklet guide, not a verbatim copy of the code.

Even a typo in that guide isn't guaranteed to get you out
of a fix if you get into one going by what is written in it.

we both know the score ? Please reread my post. My point once again.....if I was of the naive nature, didn't know sqaut, went in to Wal-Mart....asked them what i would need to hunt reptiles...they handed me this booklet...I read it and didn't see where I would need a permit...by no definition mentioning in the book what so ever. So let's look at my state and the last state I lived in. It CLEARLY states what is needed to hunt reptiles. Whether there is a permit for that or not and if it is even allowed. This being Kansas and Missouri. AND they both have the word REPTILES in print in the hunting regs booklet. Me...no, I'm not wealthy enough at this time or have the time to challenge the question/s that i posed.

Chambo,
not trying to be arguementative at all,
but seriously, that guide isn't worth squat
as Tank says.

the issues that are not addressed in that guide
are many, and yes I wish they would spell it out
for us in plain english, but that would be counter
productive to THIER cause, so the guide remains
obscure and pointless (as it pertains to Non game
species).

You and I do know the score, but to anyone reading
that "guide" w/o prior knowledge, well they will
remain in the dark, which is probably just the
way they want it.

I did read your post and try to address your questions.
The answers to all your questions are that what is written
in that guide does not mean squat, especially for non game
regulations. You have to download and read the actual
laws, not TP&W's interpretation like tank said.

The guide is great for a quick reference on what county
is north zone, south zone, if my redfish is legal length,
and when Bow and Arrow season starts. Other than that, you
may as well trash that handy little waste of our tax dollars.

In many cases the book has different wording than what the law says, that book isnt worth the tax dollars spent on it. read the laws from the state of texas & not from tp&w, the allways change the wordin as they see fit.
